Sample: what my two baths cost

These are the selections, the drawing and the list from my own primary bath, plus priced line items and a tile layout from the hall bath. You get the same three things for your room, with a model number, a link, the price you’ll likely pay and how long it takes to arrive on every line.

Everything on this page is my part, design: finishes and fixtures selected, priced and drawn. Construction materials and labor are your contractor’s part.

Mine went in this order: the contractor priced the job first, tile included, and I picked everything after. In addition to his $32,000 price, I spent $14,672 on things I picked on my own, plus one $2,620 change order, the kind every job has: about $17,000 in addition, $49,292 in all.

I ordered the fixtures as the crew needed them and watched the delivery dates so nothing held them up. For you, I reverse that order: every item is decided and priced first, and the list tells you what to order first, second and so on.

Bath 1: the primary bath

  • Selections board for the primary bath: wall paint color, lighted mirror cabinet, champagne bronze faucets, white quartz, a white cabinet with brass pulls, a smart toilet, a ribbed oak cabinet, a freestanding tub, a shower set, marble-look tile and pebble tile with a square drain
Selections One wall color, every metal in champagne bronze, one wall tile and one pebble tile, put together before anything was ordered.
  • Drawing of the vanity wall: two sink cabinets, a makeup counter with a stool in the middle, a three-panel mirror cabinet and two vanity lights
Vanity wall, drawn Two sinks, a makeup counter in the middle, one lighted mirror cabinet across all three.
  • The finished vanity wall: two sinks, a makeup counter in the middle and a long lighted mirror cabinet
    As built Same wall.

Decided on this wall

  • Kitchen base cabinets instead of bath vanities: kitchen counter height, and 24 inches deep instead of 21, for more counter. The two sink cabinets are turned upside down: drawer at the bottom, doors on top.
  • Between the sinks, a 30-inch kitchen drawer attaches to the cabinets on either side, with open space below, so a stool slides under the makeup counter.
  • Outlets placed on the drawing: three at the counter, two under the makeup counter and one for the mirror cabinet, plus wiring for the two vanity lights above the mirror.

Tile layout

Tile layout drawn over a photo of the hall bath before tile: 12-by-24 tile set vertically on the walls, the same tile on the floor, cut pieces marked at the edges, a niche lined in pebble under the showerhead, and pebble on the front of the tub
Hall bath tile layout, walls and floor. Drawn over a site photo after the fact. Your version is a plain drawing with measurements.

Room design is from $1,800; a primary bath or kitchen is from $3,200. See what each one includes, or book a first visit.
